Plans for NZ's first treetop walk

Treetop Walk
Construction of New Zealand's first treetop walk in a West Coast of South Island native forest near Hokitika might start in March.
It is hoped the $7.7 million tourist attraction will be finished by the end of the year.
Australian eco-tourism company Canopy01 plans to start building the 450-metre-long Hokitika Rimu Treetop Walk in March after consents were granted late last year.
"We're still looking at it opening by December this year," director Neil Wade said yesterday.
The treetop walk would be suspended about 25m above the forest floor, offering visitors views of native bush and Lake Mahinapua.
It would end in a spiral staircase to a Southern Alps lookout tower, 47m high.
