150 days to London Olympics...

A barge carrying a magnificent set of giant Olympic rings was launched on the London river to mark 150 days until the start of the Games. Measuring 11 metres (36ft) high and 25 metres (82ft) wide, the glowing display sailed regally through the city centre on a barge pulled along by a tugboat.

It was waved through Tower Bridge by Boris Johnson, who declared 2012 a 'thrilling' year for 'one of the most exciting cities on earth'.
The multi-coloured rings, which were illuminated from below and had white LED lights on the reverse, began their journey down the Thames in pitch darkness.
As dawn broke, the Rings on the River passed famous landmarks from the former British naval light cruiser HMS Belfast to sparkling skyscraper The Shard.
They will now go into storage until the start of the Olympics, when they will again take a trip down the Thames.

Chandra Bahadur Dangi, 72 is world's shortest man...

Chandra Bahadur Dangi - world's shortest man

Home to Mount Everest, the world's highest peak, the scenic country of Nepal has added another height-related superlative - of having the world's shortest man.
A Guinness World Records team measured Chandra Bahadur Dangi at 54.60 centimetres, declaring the 72-year-old even shorter the previous title holder, Junrey Balawing, from the Philippines, who stood at 59.70cm at the age of 18 last year.
"The good news is that Chandra Bahadur Dangi is the world's shortest living man," Guiness Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday told reporters after measurements were taken.
"If he is really 72 years old he is the oldest person to be awarded the shortest-man record," Glenday said, adding Dangi was also the shortest person ever measured by the Guinness World Records.
From a poor and uneducated family in a remote part of Nepal, Dangi said he had never heard of Mount Everest and was unaware of the world record title before a timber merchant visited his remote village last month and decided to measure him.
His diminutive size has since made him a celebrity in the impoverished nation of 26.6 million people and he took a plane for the first time last week to travel from his village, Rimkholi, 267 km west of Kathmandu, to meet the Guiness World Records officials in the capital.
"I am good. I feel happy," Dangi said holding two framed certificates. "I want to travel around the world and spread the name of my country."
Dangi, whose parents died when he was still in his teens, lives with his brother with, he said, no desire to marry.
His family has no idea when he stopped growing as many Nepali villages still lack basic health care. Dangi has never seen a doctor in his life. Five of his brothers and two sisters are of normal size.
Dangi mostly stays at home, needing assistance to move around, preparing head straps used by villagers to carry loads.
Before Balawing, who was declared the shortest man in the world in June last year, another Nepali man, Khagnedra Thapa Magar, who stood 67 centimetres tall, held the title.

Red Hong ... wake up and paint with coffee:

An artist has created an uncanny portrait 'painting' using nothing but coffee and a mug.Hong Yi used Nescafe coffee stains from the bottom of a cup to depict Taiwanese song-writer Jay Chou on a 3ft by 5.5ft canvas, after becoming 'inspired' by one of his songs.

She has experimented with a variety of different media to create artwork in the past, which include sunflower seeds, chilli paste, and basketballs.
Ground breaking: Hong Yi shows her painting of Taiwanese song-writer Jay Chou. She was 'inspired' by one of his songs

American Idol Top 24...

Wednesday night, 14 of this season's "American Idol" top 24 were announced, ending with what was supposed to be a cliffhanger as weepy scenery-chewer Adam Brock awaited his fate. Well, Adam found out within the first 90 seconds of Thursday's part 2 "Green Mile" episode that he'd made it (much to my dismay; see below for my mini-rant why). But there were a few other announcements this evening that were indeed surprising.

Scott Dangerfield goes home.Among Thursday's notable eliminations were charismatic boy wonder David Leathers Jr, who'd really impressed me in Vegas; Scott Dangerfield, one of my favorites from last year who'd I'd been hoping to see more of this year, but who faltered in his final performance; bipolar teen Shelby Lynn Tweten, who'd once disturbingly declared that her "Idol" dream was the only thing keeping her on her meds; and gentle giant Jermaine Jones, who sobbed like a small child when he didn't make it through.

Simon Cowell with “Super Final” Proposal...

Ever since "The Voice" and "The X Factor" entered the reality fray to give premier TV singing contest "American Idol" some serious competition, the shows have been constantly compared to each other. Which one spawns the most superstars? ("Idol.") Which one  generates the most drama and controversy? ("X Factor.") Which is the most dang fun to watch? ("The Voice.") Et cetera. So why not make it a REAL, sanctioned competition? Well, that's exactly what  Simon Cowell proposed in an amazing tweet Thursday night--and I truly hope he wasn't joking.

My New Zealand road trips.

New Zealand (Māori: Aotearoa) is an island country located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses ‒ that of the North and South Islands ‒ as well as numerous smaller islands. What I like about NZ is that this country has it all....modern cities like Auckland , Wellington ,Christchurch, and small, remote and thinly populated townships, beautiful lakes, snow capped mountains and endless miles of roads that give you sheer driving pleasure.

NZ punches well above its weight with its outlandish scenery, fabulous festivals, superb food and wine, and magical outdoor experiences. Equally impressive is NZ’s potent, mainstream Maori culture best seen at Rotorua, the heartland of Maori culture.

Stuff.co.nz....http://www.stuff.co.nz/ recently featured their Top 10 NZ roads.   http://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/motoring/great-nz-roads/6392236/Top-10-NZ-roads-Number-1

Top on the list is The Forgotten World Highway from Stratford - Taumarunui a distanceof 142km.

Lake Pukaki ,the snow capped Mt. Cook, valleys make this my top NZ road.....the ride is smooth,
not hilly and not winding with very few cars on the road. Most of the tourists will reach the Alpine Centre at noon for lunch and have enough time to travel to Queenstown or Christchurch depending on which direction you are going. We have travelled there by coach and at lunchtime there is a big crowd at the Cafe. But when we went on our own and arrived after 4pm, the cafe was closing.Sorry, Kiwis dont take lunch at 4 pm !
