What is this crazy thing that we’re doing and why did we get rid of all of our stuff?
The Path Less Pedaled is an open-ended bicycle tour - and an exploration of what it means to live outside the lines. In March 2009, Laura Crawford and Russ Roca made the decision to drop out of the status quo and find something new in an open-ended journey.
Instead of investing in a corporate job, a mortgage, a retirement plan, we decided to invest in ourselves. We took the value off of our stuff and put it on the opportunity to live deeply, to follow our dreams, to create everyday adventures. We stopped wondering about the rest of the world, and went out to experience it.
We’re not super-athletes. We’re not out to set any speed records. The mileage doesn’t really matter. Our journey is about meeting people, tasting new foods, seeing unknown corners of the world. We travel on bicycle because we move slowly. We can sink into our surroundings and connect deeply with the world around us. We can watch the rain create rivers, play harmonica under the stars, cook dinner over an open fire.
As we meander across the map, we’ve learned that the best route isn’t always the straightest one, and the greatest experience isn’t always the most comfortable. The more we trust ourselves and the people around us, the richer our interactions become. We have made friends with change, knowing that spontaneity brings incredible opportunities. And we share our journey because everybody needs a community and a little bit of inspiration.
